It was a season of Qatar Ceylon Cup (QCC) football like none other.
Everocks FC lifted its 14th Champions Trophy at the event held in Al Sadd Sports Club on February 19. However, there were no spectators as per the Covid-19 protocols, manager Shahul Hameed Mohamed Alfassy said.
Haaji 7’s FC got the runners-up award and Kandy Kings the second runners-up award.
Mohamed Musab and Nispy Ahmed secured the golden ball and golden glove.
Qatar Ceylon Cup 2021 was organised by Puttalam Zahirians FC marking the 76th anniversary of Puttalam Zahira National, Sri Lanka.
A total of 14 teams took part.
Sri Lankan ambassador Mafaz Mohideen and International Walking Football Federation (IWFF) Asia and IWFF Qatar president Farhan al-Shiekh al-Sayed attended the closing ceremony to present the trophies and awards.
QCC Organising Committee awarded to the champions a special ball with signatures of Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al-Thani and Al Sadd Club football team coach Xavi Hernandez.
All matches were live streamed via YouTube and Sri Lankan community living in Qatar gave their contribution to the safe return of football in Qatar, QCC president Isham Marikar said.
