Qatar Museums (QM) has signed several Memoranda of Understanding with local entities working on advancing Qatar’s creative landscape, activating its creative space at M7.
The agreements support a mutual commitment by the partners, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), Injaz Qatar, and Doha Film Institute (DFI) to the strengthening of the relationships between the organisations and the development of cooperative programming.
The agreement with VCUarts Qatar will see QM working with the university to enhance capabilities, develop new knowledge, and advance creative expression and innovation to the public.
The agreement aims to augment learning, and strengthen the positive impact the entities have on diverse art and design communities, QM noted.
“M7 is excited to join hands with VCUarts Qatar, Injaz Qatar and DFI as our first programme partners to fuel creative expression within our communities. This collaboration facilitates knowledge exchange and transfer through several inspiring activities designed to spark creativity and maximise learning outcomes for the community. As a creative hub, M7 is committed to mentoring creatives and advancing education within the industry while supporting QM as it nurtures a thriving cultural landscape,” M7 director Maha Ghanim al-Sulaiti said in a statement.
M7 was established under the auspices of QM chairperson HE Sheikha al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, with the aim of advancing the career path of Qataris in creative fields.
“Since its inception, VCUarts Qatar has successfully partnered with artists, designers and the wider community to offer programmes that enhance the local art and design landscape. Looking forward, we’re excited to collaborate with M7 and QM. The collaboration will provide an opportunity to collectively use our resources and expertise to bring out the potential of existing and emerging creative talents in the country,” VCUarts Qatar dean Amir Berbi? noted.
Meanwhile, QM’s agreement with Injaz Qatar will see both entities form a cultural partnership, which will entail the shared use of M7’s creative spaces and the development of tailoured programmes for students, including mentorship and talks, and an innovation camp model placing emphasis on creativity and design thinking skills.
“We at Injaz Qatar are very proud of this partnership with M7. We share a common mission to develop the careers of the youth of Qatar, train aspiring entrepreneurs in creative fields and spark creativity in people through educational programmes,” Injaz Qatar CEO Emad al-Khaja said.
“Making a difference in our local community is what inspires our work at Injaz. We believe that the most meaningful investment we can make is in people, helping them reach their full potential. We look forward to a great partnership,” he added.
DFI CEO Fatma Hassan al-Remaihi said: “Uniting culture, community and education is at the core of the DFI’s work, so we are proud to be amongst the first collaborators with M7 to elevate our progress in expanding the vibrant creative community in Qatar.”
“We are excited to continue to contribute to Qatar's legacy of innovation and strengthen creative expression through arts and culture, and look forward to collaborating with the team at M7 to support the inspiring activities ahead of us,” she added.
