Qatar Airways on Tuesday said over 50,000 refunds for hotel quarantine packages have been processed till date and further requests are being facilitated.
The airline also informed that Discover Qatar has so far assisted more than 310,000 people to complete quarantine in 65 hotels and served 5mn meals.
Issuing a statement on Twitter yesterday, Qatar Airways said: "We are aware of the increased demand for quarantine rooms as restrictions evolve with no home quarantine permitted from red list countries. Our teams are working round the clock to ensure the continued safety of Qatar and its residents.
"We have processed over 50,000 refunds to date and continue to facilitate further requests, we appreciate the patience of our customers as it can take up to 60 days to process refunds."
The airline said "more than 240 employees are dedicated to welcoming those returning to Qatar as we support the Ministry of Public Health to protect the local community from Covid-19".
"It has been a huge undertaking to set up an effective and efficient hotel quarantine system that is a model for many other countries," Qatar Airways stressed. "The refund team is working diligently to ensure all refunds are processed promptly within the 60 days of your request and we appreciate your patience during this time."
"Please e-mail all refund requests to [email protected] so we have a record of the date of your refund request," the airline added.
According to Qatar’s travel and return policy, people coming from the green list countries are required to undergo home quarantine while those arriving from other countries have to go for hotel quarantine. The list is updated periodically and is available on the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) website. Quarantine packages have to be purchased from the Discover Qatar website.
The MoPH had last week announced that fully vaccinated citizens and residents of Qatar are now exempt from quarantine requirements after travel abroad and following exposure to a Covid-19 positive case.
