The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has chalked out a plan to set up four more primary health centres (HCs) across the country, providing a further fillip to Qatar’s healthcare sector, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported recently.
A source at the corporation told the daily that the new centres will come in Al Hilal, Bani Hajer, Umm Ghuwailina and Khalifa City. The news HCs will be opened by 2024.
These are in addition to five health centres that are expected to be handed over by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) this year.
The source said the PHCC’s plan is to focus on creating new HCs with a system that is different from the one found in the old centres. This will be done by introducing many new services with the aim of further developing medical services by increasing the number of specialised clinics for dental, ENT, chronic and skin disease treatment along with physiotherapy, Arrayah said.
Besides, wellness services that aim to preserve health before reaching the stage of illness will also be introduced.
Meanwhile, the buildings of five new health centres in Al Sadd, South Al Wakra, Al Meshaf, Ain Khaled and Al Khor are expected to be handed over to the MoPH this year, taking the number of PHCC HCs to 32.
Ashghal has completed the main works of the South Al Wakra Health Centre. These have been carried out by the Building Projects Department to serve about 360 visitors a day, while works are continuing on schedule at the four other health centres as well.
The South Al Wakra health centre will have 16 clinics and six consulting rooms with a pharmacy, radiology room and library. The health centre in Al Meshaf will house 48 clinics with 23 consulting rooms, dental clinics, a laboratory, radiology and outpatient clinics with a capacity of 600 consultations per day.
At Ain Khaled, the HC will have 48 clinics and 25 consulting rooms, eight dental clinics, a laboratory, pharmacy, radiology and outpatient rooms. The building will be able to handle 600 cases per day.
The Al Khor health centre will have 60 clinics, 28 consulting rooms and 10 dental clinics along with a laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and emergency facilities. The centre can handle 650 cases a day.
At Al Sadd, 1,500 cases can be dealt with on a single day. The centre will have 100 clinics, 22 consulting rooms, eight dental clinics, five ophthalmology clinics, audio test clinics, a recovery centre, isolation rooms, laboratories and radiology, outpatient clinics and a pharmacy.
