HSBC has welcomed six new Qatari graduates into permanent roles with the bank’s team in Doha, over the past three months.

This half-dozen group of exceptional talents successfully joined HSBC’s renowned ‘Graduate Programme’, launching their careers as banking professionals.

“We are very proud of the new intake of Qatari graduates who have joined us this year. They have distinguished themselves as highly motivated, innovative thinkers with a passion for the industry.

“The Qatar National Vision 2030 has been a catalyst in the development of an extensive talent pool in the country and we are excited to work with these young talents in developing their careers and contributing to the local economy,” said Abdul Hakeem, CEO of HSBC in Qatar.

The six graduates, Zainab al-Khuzaie, Noor Abdulla, Ghada al-Thani, Mohamed Lari, Yousif al-Derbesti and Haya Almadadi, will take their initial assignments in several different business lines within the bank. They will be introduced to a number of disciplines over the next 24 months, after which they will start their permanent roles as junior leaders.

HSBC’s Graduate Programme consists of four rotations, each lasting six months, designed to give graduates broad experience of HSBC’s business streams and international exposure.

“We have been working closely with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs to ensure that we align our strategy with their vision. These collaboration efforts have been very successful and helped us to identify the candidates.

“We are very fortunate with the exceptional talents that have joined the bank as part of the graduate programme over the past number of years,” said Shamsa al-Fahd, head of Human Resources at HSBC, Qatar.

Since 2016, the bank has recruited 42 graduate trainees. Of these, 30 have successfully assumed fulltime positions as junior leaders and the remaining 12 will be joining their departments once they complete their two-year rotation.

“The bank is planning another intake of ten graduate students in 2021. This is testament to our ongoing commitment to recruit, retain, and develop Qatari talent. We look forward to seeing our new recruits’ progress in their professional careers within HSBC,” said al-Fahd.

HSBC adopts a strategic approach to addressing the nationalisation of the workforce and increasing the number of Qatari banking professionals in key roles within the bank.

Hussain Ali al-Sharshani, head of Nationalisation & Local Talent, said: “We started the journey with the focus on hiring graduates even with the Covid-19-related difficulties. By changing our processes, we were able to work closely with the different universities in Qatar to reach as many qualifying graduate talents as possible. We are very pleased with the outcome.”
