More than 140,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given in Qatar, Dr Abdullatif al-Khal, chair of the National Strategic Group on Covid-19 and head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Hamad Medical Corporation, said on Thursday.

"These numbers are likely to increase in the coming days very quickly as more supply of the vaccine have begun to be available," he told Qatar TV at a new temporary Covid-19 vaccination centre at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

"Qatar also received the first shipment of Moderna vaccine, in a limited quantity only to test the delivery or shipping and storage process and its use. We expect that larger quantities of this vaccine will arrive, but I can assure you that there is no difference between Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. They both have the same combinations, same efficiency and the same degree of safety,” added Dr al-Khal.
