Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham, President of Qatar University (QU), said the university continues to adhere to its plan to conduct mid-term and final exams on campus.

“There is no intention to hold exams remotely so far, and we continue to adhere to all precautionary measures that are in line with the directions of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management and the Ministry of Public Health,” Dr al-Derham was reported as saying by local Arabic daily Arrayah.

The university is proceeding according to a specific protocol to conduct exams in a safe environment. Students will be seated respecting social distancing and at a rate of 30% of the total capacity of the halls, he said.

Dr al-Derham pointed out that the last semester examinations took place on the university campus and “we did not register any case of coronavirus infection on campus during this period.”

He noted that midterm exams are more flexible than final exams in terms of setting dates and distributing students, adding that for the final exams “we have taken the precautionary measures and extended them for the 2021 spring term, from Saturday, April 17, 2021, until Thursday, May 6, 2021, to ensure the safety of students and the university community, and control the number of students during exam times.”
