Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has completed the implementation of a project for fitting artificial limbs for war victims in Syria, through its representative office in the Turkish city of Gaziantep. It covers the cost of purchasing and fitting high-quality artificial limbs for war victims and supporting the mechanism of their adaptation to society and restore their natural lives.
The project was implemented over two months in Turkey and northern Syria, where refugees and residents of different age groups lack a body to provide such support, a matter which would change their lives and help them return to work and production, and transform them from people who need permanent support to effective, capable and self-reliant people.
In light of the difficulty for patients to bear the costs of these services, the QRCS initiated the project to fit 45 high-quality lower artificial limbs in 45 people.
Regarding this project, executive director of the international relief and development sector at the QRCS Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi said the war in Syria has left a huge number with injuries and permanent disabilities as a result of the loss of limbs, making the lives of those affected and their families difficult and complicated.
This is in addition to the lack of health facilities capable of providing services to these cases, which has negatively affected the level of healthcare and the provision of medical aids for people with special needs.
Al-Emadi pointed to the poor economic situation of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in Turkey, internally displaced persons and residents inside Syria who suffer from similar health problems and cannot afford the expenses required to provide the supplies that help alleviate their suffering, adding that this has led to the accumulation of large numbers of those who have lost their limbs, in parallel with the absence of parties that can provide them with the best assistance.
