The Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) has become the first Middle East regulator to launch digital and educational project on Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT).
This has been done in co-operation with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), whereby they have developed an assessment module.
This project “reflects QFMA's keenness and commitment towards promoting the specialised technical learning of those involved in the financial market through providing a digital platform to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness about combating money-laundering and financing of terrorism, in addition to supporting the national efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the Qatar capital market AML/CFT," said Nasser al-Shaibi, QFMA chief executive.
The QFMA has developed this AML/CFT digital learning assessment, in English and Arabic, for professionals working in the Qatari capital market.
The successful completion of the e-learning module will enhance the AML/CFT awareness in the capital market sector, and will be well recognised in the QFMA licensing process.
The module combines regulatory and supervisory knowledge together with professional and training experience, as it includes AML/CFT international principles and regulations, as well as the AML/CFT legislations of Qatar.
As one of its digital platforms; QFMA made this module available for the public and the entities concerned. It can be read and accessed on any mainstream mobile, tablet, or laptop, with the aim of disseminating knowledge and awareness about AML/CFT in the capital market sector in particular, and in the financial sector in general.
The AML/CFT e-learning module consists of eight-themed chapters and is concluded by a test of multiple-choice questions. Upon the successful completion of the test, the registrant will receive a downloadable certificate issued by the QFMA and the CISI.
The QFMA will have full access to the results of an individual's professional assessment, to oversee AML/CFT compliance across Qatar.
The QFMA attaches a great importance to enhancing the educational and awareness capacities of professionals in the capital market, and for those concerned and interested in it, especially regarding AML/CFT, considering its key role in ensuring the ongoing development of the financial sector in general, and the capital market sector in particular, al-Shaibi said.
This module is part of the QFMA's strategic plan 2017-22, and in co-operation with the entities concerned in Qatar, to keep abreast with the AML/CFT international standards and requirements, he added.
Simon Culhane, CISI chief executive, said the aim of the programme is to help increase the effectiveness of all staff to fight money laundering and the financing of terrorism, enabling the financial sector in Qatar to be at the forefront of combating money laundering and terrorism financing.
