Access to Al Wakrah Central Market should be further improved with suitably placed road signs that will help ease the exit and entry process, a number of citizens have said.
Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, they said one year after its opening to the public, the central market needs some improvements and enhancements to make it more accessible and convenient for customers.
For instance, the citizens said it takes a long time for them to have their slaughtered livestock delivered from the automated abattoir, with a delay of up to an hour at times. Besides, there should be tighter control on the retail prices of sheep as some sellers often increase the price of a single sheep by more than 10%, they told the daily. Customers must be given numbers to speed up the delivery of services, the citizens suggested, while also stressing that road works in the area should be completed as soon as possible to ease the process of entering and exiting the market.
Mohamed al-Marri, a citizen, told Arrayah that there are delays in the delivery of slaughtered sheep orders despite the presence of sophisticated and modern equipment at the slaughterhouse. He also called for better road signage leading to the market from Mesaieed and other directions.
Khalal al-Buainian said the local sheep prices at the market had increased by 10%, selling for around QR1,250 a sheep instead of the earlier price of QR1,100, with the sellers claiming that this due to the charges of transporting the animals. He said the authorities concerned should exercise tighter control in this area.
Nawaf S’hail suggested that clearer road signs should be erected to ease the exit of customers from the market and to lead them properly to places such as Doha or other parts of Al Wakra.
