For the first time in Qatar, elections were conducted for Indian expatriate community apex bodies through a mobile application – DIGIPOLL – developed by the embassy of India. This was done to avoid mass gathering for the manual voting process in the current Covid-19 situation.
The election process was flawless and a huge success with more than 95% participation. There was all-round acknowledgement and appreciation for the job done by the embassy in conducting the elections fairly and the results were declared in less than 30 minutes, after closing time.
For Indian Cultural Center (ICC), P N Baburajan was elected as president along with other managing committee members for 2021-22. The first ICC management committee meeting was held recently and the assigned positions were announced. The members are namely, Subramanya Hebbagelu, vice president; Krishna Kumar Bandhakavi, general secretary; Sudhir Gupta, secretary; Arshad Ali, head of finance; Anish George Mathew, head of HR and premises; Shweta Koshti, head of cultural activities; Kamla Dhansingh Thakur, activity co-ordinator and education; Mohan Kumar, head of in-house activities; Afsal Abdul Majeed, head of consular services and external events; and Sajeev Sathyseelan, head of affiliation and membership. The managing committee allocations are based on the members’ background and experience in various organisational positions.
