Tomorrow is my sixth day of quarantine after my return from Mexico; I am looking forward to having my drive through Covid test tomorrow morning, and hopefully 24 hours after that, quarantine will come to an end. Been making my quarantine time as productive as I can with work, household organisation, yoga and reading.
Before travelling to a new destination, I usually like to do a lot of research, since this trip was so last minute, there was no time for that, so this time the research is taking place upon my return. After visiting Chichen Itza, a ruined ancient Maya city and one of the 7 wonders of the world, I have been reading about Mayan civilisation and culture.
I find it fascinating that Mayans used a complex complimentary system of healing, they believed in healing the body and mind in treating illnesses. Unlike Western medicine, they focused on the root cause of the illness, not just alleviating symptoms, which is something I really believe in.
The number one question people were asking when people saw that I was in Mexico was, ‘Is it safe?’ The media portrays Mexico as a place to fear and stay away from. Yes, Mexico has some turmoil, but it’s like any other place. No matter where you go, be mindful of your surroundings and use caution as you would in any big city or country.
Mexicans love Frida Kahlo. Frida is...everywhere, every wall, every gift shop, literally. She seems to be more important and loved than any President, past or present. She is an icon for women empowerment and had a huge impact and influence on Mexican art. Wherever we stayed, Frida and her art was there. Walking around you will find murals of Frida.
Mexico is a massive country with so much to do and experience.. There is so much beauty to its landscape. From Mayan ruins, to the beautiful beaches, desserts and cenotes spread all throughout the Yucatan. It’s a beautiful country to experience, I definitely recommend it.
Although, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Mexico, I was a bit wary of travel in general because of Covid, if you are planning any sort of International travel, please do everything you need to be safe and keep reading updates as they change from hour to hour.
