The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started works on the QR544mn Roads and Infrastructure Project in South Al Meshaf- Package 9. The project, according to an official statement, is implemented as part of the plan to implement infrastructure projects for citizens’ subdivisions in the southern regions of the country.
Ashghal announced the start of the implementation of the seventh package in August last year and that of the eighth package in January this year. Upon completion, the project will
have a 23km network of internal streets in the area along with 9.5km pedestrian and cycle tracks with all modern facilities and safety features. This is in addition to upgrading infrastructure facilities to respond to residents’ needs and urban growth in the future.
Located at South of Doha and South West Al Wakra, the project location is bordered by Rekayya Street to the south, Al Wukair Road to the north and by the Southern Part of Doha Express Highway to the east. The upgrading works will be implemented into three geographical zones, to be carried out successively. The duration of each phase will be one year. Full completion of the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023.
Hamad al-Maejeba, project engineer at the Southern Area Section of the Roads Projects Department in Ashghal, stated that the project serves 682 citizens’ subdivisions in South Al Meshaf Area providing upgraded infrastructure services including a 23.5km foul sewer network, 56km of surface and groundwater drainage network, 9.5km of Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) network and a 9km potable water network. New sewage pipelines will be provided and connected with Qatar’s main sewage network. Construction works will also include an emergency flood area with a total capacity of 40,000 cu m to provide proper protection for the entire area against flooding and excess rainfall.
Package 9 of the Roads and Infrastructure in South Al Meshaf Project is being implemented by the joint venture of Development Company for Road Works and Qatar Building Engineering Company, at a cost of approximately QR 544.540mn as a part of the New Subdivisions Programme carried out by Ashghal and includes a number of development projects across Qatar.
