The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) organised yesterday, a training session on the principles and concepts of human rights and their protection mechanisms, QNA reported. The three-week training session aims to develop, strengthen and build the capacities of the committee’s staff, in addition to raising awareness and knowledge of international and national mechanisms for the protection of human rights.
In a speech on the occasion, Director of Programmes and Education Department of NHRC Mubarak Mohamed al-Safran said the training session aims at developing the committee’s work, upgrading the technical and administrative level of the employees, in addition to raising the efficiency of employees in preparing reports to be submitted to international human rights organisations, bodies, and committees.
He explained that the main objectives of the training session are to enhance job skills, develop the technical capabilities of employees and expand their knowledge of the UN human rights mechanisms, in addition to identifying practical methods for effective participation with the UN mechanisms, such as writing and following up reports, and training employees on international mechanisms for protecting human rights and the relevant committees.

 

Ministry of Commerce recalls Apple iPhone 11 model
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in co-operation with iFix Qatar, Ali Bin Ali, and 51 East, dealers of Apple in Qatar, has recalled Apple iPhone 11 manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020 due to an issue with the display module, which leads some iPhone 11 displays to stop responding to touch.
The recall campaign comes within the framework of the MoCI’s continuous efforts to protect consumers and ensure that dealers follow up on defects and repairs.
The MoCI said that it will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and will communicate with customers to ensure that they carried out the necessary repairs.

Contests intensify in Qatar International Open Parachuting Championship
The competitions of the Qatar International Open Parachuting Championship, organised by the Qatar Air Sports Committee, continued yesterday in Sealine, with the participation of a number of countries including Qatar, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Slovenia, Libya, Palestine, and Morocco, QNA reported. The tournament intensified in all competitions, as the Qatari quadruple parachuting team continued its impressive performance by winning two days in a row, after obtaining 243 points in eight rounds, followed by the German team which obtained 207 points. The Moroccan team came third with 153 points, leaving the competition between Qatar and Germany. The competitiveness is expected to intensify in the championship in two days, after reaching the final stage to determine the champions.


Shura Council’s Financial and Economic Affairs Committee holds meeting
The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting yesterday, chaired by its Rapporteur HE Ali bin Abdullatif al-Misnad al-Mohannadi. During the meeting, the committee continued studying a draft law on mortgaging movable funds, and decided to complete the study at its next meeting.


377 face prosecution for Covid violations
More people were pulled up as the crackdown on Covid-19 violations continued in the country yesterday.
The designated authorities referred 370 people to the Public Prosecution for not wearing masks in places where they are mandatory, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said in a tweet.
They also referred seven people to the Public Prosecution for violating the rule limiting the number of people allowed in a vehicle, MoI added.
According to the rule, a maximum of four persons – including the driver – are allowed in a vehicle except when the occupants are members of the same family.
The measure is in line with the Cabinet decision based on Decree Law No 17 of 1990 on infectious diseases, and the precautionary and preventive measures in force in the country to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the MoI said. 
The authorities have called on the public to adhere to the precautionary and preventative measures in place to ensure their safety and that of others.

BPQ to organise blood donation camp on Friday
Bangiya Parishad Qatar (BPQ) has announced that it is organising a blood donation camp in association with the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the Indian embassy in Qatar, on Friday – February 12. 
The camp will be held at Blood Donor Center, Hamad Medical Corporation, between 3pm and 7pm that day. 
In a statement yesterday, BPQ said Indian ambassador Dr Deepak Mittal had “already provided his consent to attend the programme”.
