* Three-fold increase from the same period last year recorded

Mahaseel for Marketing and Agricultural Services Company, a subsidiary of Hassad, successfully marketed 3.5mn kg of locally produced vegetables in the Qatari market last month.

This is three times the quantity marketed during the same period last year, Hassad announced in a statement on Saturday.

"We are delighted to announce that Mahaseel has tripled the percentage of marketing fresh vegetables in the local market, compared to the same period last year, which shows the company’s success in showcasing the added value of the local produce,” said Mohamed al-Sadah, CEO of Hassad.

Al-Sadah said Mahaseel had successfully marketed around 19mn kg of vegetables in the local market in 2020. He said Mahaseel provides services to local farmers to motivate them to increase the quantity and quality of their produce.

These services, he stressed, are in line with Hassad’s investment strategy, which includes supporting and developing projects that contribute in achieving food security for Qatar.

Currently, Mahaseel promotes more than 30 vegetable varieties in the local market through 95 hypermarket outlets around the country. Moreover, 350 local farms are currently registered with Mahaseel to benefit from the marketing and agricultural services.

The company also developed a dedicated mobile application for farmers who are registered with Mahaseel, so that they can easily access all the services and information in order to satisfy their needs, the statement adds.
