Abdulla al-Mesallam, a Master of Public Policy student at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Public Policy, says that he aims to deepen his understanding of the energy and environmental challenges that Qatar is facing through the programme.
“Through my specialisation in Energy and Environmental Policy, I want to deepen my understanding of the energy and environmental challenges that Qatar is facing, such as the water-energy nexus, and to acquire the necessary evidence-based policy instruments to try to tackle these imminent problems,” he explained.
Al-Mesallam's short-term goal is to contribute further to academic literature and in the long-term, he hopes to advance his studies and pursue higher levels of education.
“My studies at HBKU helped me tremendously in terms of acquiring the necessary tools to perform evidence-based public policy analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, and management. Qatar has always been a focus of mine when conducting research, and it will continue to be so in the longer term. I believe that we owe it to ourselves to carry our nation further into a better future,” he explained.
Highlighting that he liked the talks by the guest speakers the most in the college, al-Mesallam added, and “I initially doubted my ability to pursue this degree. However, within a short time frame of joining, I was able to adjust with the help of the supportive college faculty members, which helped me become a better student.”
