As many as 14,513 violators of the Covid-19 preventive and precautionary measures were spotted in Qatar since the pandemic started, according to Brigadier-General Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah, director of the Ministry of Interior's (MoI) Public Relations Department.

"In January this year alone, more than 4,000 violators were spotted," he told a press conference on Qatar TV on Wednesday.

"The numbers increased dramatically over the past three months, with many not wearing face masks. The Ehteraz app (green status) and face masks are still mandatory even for those who have taken the vaccine against Covid-19."

Brigadier-General al-Muftah said police patrols will be intensified within residential areas. To hold a wedding, an application should be submitted to the security department concerned starting from Sunday. This feature will be added to Metrash 2 services.

"The MoI is keen to control the situation and enforce the preventive and precautionary measures and ensure compliance of the public," the official added.
