A number of young Qatari men have stressed the need to strictly abide by the necessary preventive and precautionary measures against Covid-19 while taking part in the upcoming National Sport Day (NSD) on February 9 to avoid any potential chances for further spread of the infection.
Speaking to local Arabic daily 'Arrayah', they pointed out that it is very important to take extra care at such times by observing social distancing, besides complying with the instructions of the organisers and security personnel at any scheduled event.
They also suggested that more awareness efforts should be exerted to remind the public about the situation and urge them to comply accordingly by disseminating awareness messages through brochures and erecting billboards at the activities areas.
The NSD should be considered a good occasion to boost public awareness on the Covid-19 issues and the need to maintain adequate protection and healthy habits for the safety and well-being of all.
Saif al-Shemmari appreciated the organising committee's announcement about the specific measures and conditions to celebrate the NSD this year, which shows its keenness on protecting the health and safety of the public. "Practicing sports is considered a key to a good and healthy life and everyone should make it a daily habit," he observed, while urging the elderly and the sick to avoid going out on NSD but instead utilise social media platforms to see the updates on how to practice sports safely.
Jaber al-Hamidan said that Qatar has been known for its effective role in world sports. "It is indeed a matter of pride that sport has become an integrated part of the people's culture as it helps to improve their health, mood and productivity. "The country has provided all the necessary facilities to encourage people to practice sports, especially in the open air," he pointed out.
Saleh Darman said that everyone planning to participate in the NSD activities should strictly abide by the preventive and precautionary measures against Covid-19 and consider it a serious personal responsibility. Awareness messages and reminders on the issue should be intensified during and ahead of the day to instruct people on the proper protection practices.
Abdulla al-Hajjaji suggested that people should act responsibly during these times and follow the instructions of the entities concerned to avoid any unwanted outcome, especially maintaining social distancing, to benefit from the unique occasion, that was pioneered by Qatar.
