Broadcaster and academic Marc Lamont Hill has been named host of 'UpFront', Al Jazeera English’s flagship weekly current affairs show, and will launch a new series starting February 12 at 7.30pm GMT.
The Washington DC-based show features one-on-one interviews and arena discussions with international politicians, newsmakers, academics and activists. As well as being the show’s new host, Hill is also a best-selling author and teaches media studies at Temple University.
“I’m thrilled to have Marc bringing depth, analysis and his particular take on the events shaping our times”, said AJE head of Talk Shows, Salah A A Khadr. “He is made for this moment.”
“I’m thankful for this opportunity to host such an outstanding show,” said Hill. “I’m eager to build on its success in holding power to account, as well as bringing diverse and provocative voices to the table on topics that are important to global viewers.”
In addition to his award-winning journalism, Hill is known for his work addressing the intersections of race, justice, politics and culture. Hill’s latest best-selling book is ‘We Still Here: Pandemics, Policing, Protest and Possibility’, which follows on the success of ‘Nobody: Casualties of America’s War on the Vulnerable from Flint to Ferguson’.
Hill, one of the leading intellectual voices in the US, provides an "exciting change for this weekly series as a new administration takes power in Washington", Al Jazeera Media Network has said in a statement.
'UpFront' is known for its probing and challenging interviews with leaders of all stripes, for the diversity of its coverage and for its thought-provoking analysis of current affairs. The show gives focus and context to the consequences of political decisions and their human and global implications, the statement adds.
'UpFront' airs weekly on Al Jazeera English on Fridays at 7.30pm GMT and repeats Saturdays at 2.30am GMT, Sundays at 4.30am and 11.30pm, and Mondays at 8.30am.
