Rasen Adventure’s Fadhel al-Khater completed a hat-trick of National Time Trial titles as he clocked 37:22.1s to complete 28km course.
Al-Khater registered a convincing win ahead of Abdullah al-Jaaidi, (38:39.1) of Team Doha and Marwan al-Jalham of RAS (39:20.3). This year’s National Time Trial Championship was a full event, in all age groups.
Essa Almaadeed (42:09.5) emerged the fastest in the U-40 category. He finished ahead of Rabay Aladawi (42:32.5) and Mubarak Alajji (43:36.3).
Ahmad al-Subaey (44:29.4) won the master’s title (40+), while veteran racer Nasser Mubarak (44:40.1) retained his 50+ title.
The race, sponsored by Ashghal, was held at the newly built Olympic Cycling Track.
The open race, running concurrently with the National Championships, discovered Qatar’s fastest expatriates on wheels.
British Rider Jonathan Parker (35:50.8) and Finn Pia Sundstedt (41:47.0) won men’s and women’s open categories titles. Parker was also declared Open Masters champion.
The focus of the Qatar’s elite riders will be on road races; the second of this year’s National Championships.
The hills of Dukhan will challenge endurance and strength – a very different test from the sustained efforts of the time trial.
