Windy conditions are expected in the country from Saturday afternoon along and cold weather will continue at night and early in the morning, the Qatar Met department has said.

"Weather maps indicate that the country will be affected by northwesterly winds, fresh to strong, from Saturday (January 30) afternoon. The wind speed is expected to range from 12-22 knots, gusting to 25 knots at times with slight dust in some places," the weather office said in a report on social media on Thursday.

Fresh winds are expected to continue blowing until the middle of next week, and the marine warning will likely continue until Tuesday (February 2). The wind speed is expected to range from 18-25 knots offshore with wind gusts reaching 35 knots at times, while the wave height will range from 5-8ft and rise to 13ft in some areas.

Cold weather will continue during the night and early in the morning, with the minimum temperature ranging from 7-17C and the maximum from 19-24C in various regions of the country. The 'apparent temperature; will be less than that due to the fresh northwesterly winds, the report states.

‘Apparent temperature’ is the temperature equivalent perceived by humans, caused by the combined effects of air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed, according to information available online.

The Met department has called on everyone to be careful and avoid marine activities during the warning period, as well as to follow up on the latest weather updates through its official accounts.
