One PhD student and one faculty member at the College of Science and Engineering at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) have been recognised with Oman’s National Research Award 2020 in the Young Researcher’s category. 
Dr Yusuf Bicer, assistant professor of Sustainable Development, and Mohamed al-Breiki, PhD student and researcher in the sustainable energy programme, were named winners in the category of best published research led by a young researcher (non-PhD holder) in the Energy and Industry Field. 
A highly competitive edition of the National Research Award saw 218 researchers competing in two categories. The awarded research paper is titled ‘Investigating the Technical Feasibility of Various Energy Carriers for Alternative and Sustainable Overseas Energy Transport Scenarios’, which has been published in the Energy Conversion and Management journal by Elsevier. 
The 12 overall winners of the National Research Award 2020 were announced during the seventh cycle of the Annual Research Forum hosted by Oman’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation under the patronage of Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al-Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Oman.
