QNA/Doha
The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) yesterday organised a training programme in the field of human rights for the benefit of law enforcement personnel in Qatar. The programme was held via remote visual communication technology, in co-operation with the Arab Institute for Human Rights in the Republic of Tunisia.
The organisation of the training programme comes within the framework of the strategic partnership between the two institutions for years and is aimed at strengthening the joint work between them in order to spread and protect the culture of human rights in Qatar and the Arab region.
The training programme, which will continue during 2021, aims to advance the participants’ knowledge and skills in the field of human rights to enhance their role in protecting these rights in line with relevant national legislation and international human rights law.
The training programme consists of organising a series of general and specialised workshops and training courses that take into account the needs of the beneficiaries in the field of human rights, and NHRC.
The institute will implement training activities remotely until health conditions imposed by the global Covid-19 pandemic allow them to be held directly.
In his opening speech for the training programme, NHRC assistant secretary-general, Sultan Hassan al-Jamali, said one of the most important functions and tasks of the NHRC as a national institution is the promotion and protection of human rights in Qatar.
President of the Arab Institute for Human Rights, Abdul Basit bin Hassan, said the training programme is part of the deep and continuous mutual relationship with the NHRC in Qatar to focus on an important section of human rights and international human rights law and everything related to human rights protection mechanisms.
