Despite chilly and blustery conditions, 40 brave golfers challenged the elements to participate in the 198th edition of Qatar Golf Lovers’ (QGL) Strokeplay Golf Tournament at the Doha Golf Club (DGC) last weekend.  
In a fun and festive event full of prizes and surprises, QGL, Qatar’s oldest and largest golf society, welcomed the new year with its first event of 2021, where Sanjeev Gupta was declared winner of Flight A (0-9 HCP) with a net score of 31, overcoming a strong challenge from Dr. JB Roy. 
Meanwhile, PK Viswanath won Flight B (10+ HCP) with a net score of 32, nudging Amit Nagpal, who finished with the same score, on countback.
Dr. Deepak Mittal, Ambassador of India to Qatar, and  Captain Mohan Atla (Defence Attache at the Embassy of India), both of whom participated in the tournament, were all praise for the way the tournament was organized.
Special prizes went to Kunal Bhatia for ‘nearest to rope’, Andrew Robinson for ‘nearest to pin’, Dr. Amitav Mitra for ‘longest putt’, and Captain Mohan Atla for the ‘longest drive’. 
QGL Vice-President Sanjay Jain hosted the prize distribution dinner and welcomed new member Tim Merriweather and guests. 
President Manoj Megchiani gave away the prizes and announced that QGL would soon host a special tournament for the 45 beginners who recently completed their coaching at DGC. QGL has scheduled its 199th tournament for February 19. Those interested in participating may visit QGL website MYQGL.COM
