The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the completion of the main works of the Improvement of Main Roads in Al Nasr Area project, ushering in substantial development to one of Doha's bustling commercial and residential zones.

The completed works included the upgrade of 7km main streets in Al Nasr area, in addition, to completion of six signalised intersections. Al Nasr, Al Mirqab Al Jadeed, Al Kinana and Mohamed Bin Qasim streets along with Al Syoul, Yaser bin Amar, Al Basateen, Zaid Al Khail and Al Ghotah streets have been upgraded.

Rashed al-Zeyara, project engineer in the Roads Projects Department, said the newly upgraded roads have LED street lighting. “The works also included improving the stormwater network along all 7km of the project’s streets, upgrading 6.5km of foul sewer network and creating a 5.8km-long Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE) network, in addition, to providing crossing ducts for future infrastructure upgrading and protecting the existing electricity and telecommunication lines," he explained.

As part of the project, the stormwater drainage network at Mohammed bin Qasim street intersection with Al Kinana street was also upgraded. Al-Zeyara said the expansion would make it easier for motorists to park and walk to the commercial facilities especially in Al Kinana and Al Mirqab streets as the project provided 1,700 parking bays and almost 14km of pedestrian paths. Besides, the project included pedestrian crossings and lighting systems for the safety of road users.

The Ashghal official said the upgrading works have also significantly enhanced the traffic flow in the area and improved the road network safety level, in addition, to facilitating access to many residential areas with heavy traffic flow such as Al Mirqab, Fereej Al Nasr, Fereej Bin Mahmoud and Al Sadd areas.

To ease the traffic congestion and enhance the traffic flow on Al Mirqab Al Jadeed street, traffic flow was changed to one direction on the two lanes of the street from the intersection with Mohammed bin Qasim Street until the intersection with Suhaim Bin Hamad Street (C-Ring Road). The layout of the rest of the street from the intersection with Mohammed bin Qasim Street towards AlAmir Street is unchanged with one lane in each direction.
