Qatar University (QU) academic Dr Derek Stewart has been appointed as the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy (IJCP).

He is a professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice at QU-College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) and manager of Academic Quality Assurance at Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences Office.

The IJCP, published by Springer Nature, offers a platform for research articles in the broad field of clinical pharmacy and related subjects. The journal publishes original research articles, reviews, short research reports, commentaries, book reviews, editorials and letters to the editor. The bi-monthly, international, peer-reviewed journal publishes around 150 articles per year on a wide range of subjects.

Dr Stewart recalled he has been committed to the journal for many years as an author, regular reviewer of submitted articles and editorial board member.

"It is an honour and highlight of my career to take on the role of editor-in-chief and to attempt to follow in the footsteps of Foppe van Mil, who had been editor-in-chief for 20 years. I am supported by associate four editors, Filipa Alves da Costa, Vibhu Paudyal, Shusen Sun and Yolande Hanssens. I am particularly indebted to Yolande Hanssens of Hamad Medical Corporation who very willingly assumed the role of interim editor-in-chief until my appointment. I am keen to raise the scientific standing of the journal in academic and clinician circles.”

QU-CPH dean Dr Mohamed Diab added, “Dr. Derek’s new appointment is an outstanding achievement which provides an excellent opportunity to enhance our international reputation in research.”

The journal is affiliated with the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy, an international leader in advancing quality and innovation in clinical pharmacy education, practice and research. In December 2020, Dr Stewart was also appointed as president of the society for two years.
