Dr Mansour Ahmad al-Saadi al-Yafei, a Qatari student, has won the Academic Excellence Award in the PhD category in public law, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
“The thesis documents Kuwait’s role in mediation as the most prominent case regionally and there is a need to activate the Gulf Co-operation Council’s dispute settlement authority,” he said.
Dr al-Yafei explained that his doctoral thesis, titled “Amicable Solutions to Political Disputes, the Role of Kuwaiti Mediation in Solving the Gulf Crisis” is an applied study confirming the need to develop new effective legal mechanisms and means for settling disputes, with recommendations to strengthen the role of friendly mediation in settling legal and political disputes at the national and international levels. It also showed the importance of respecting international contracts and covenants, far from getting tangled in disagreements.
Dr al-Yafei said that Qatar played an effective international role in mediation at the regional and international levels, especially in Darfur, Palestine, Lebanon and Afghanistan. It is a model too in international mediation and has skilled national cadres in international negotiation.
