The Central Municipal Council (CMC) has issued some recommendations regarding the establishment of rest stops equipped with public toilets across the main roads and key areas of the country, especially since the 2022 FIFA World Cup is approaching.
The council has urged the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) to consider this suggestion as huge number of fans from around the world are expected to visit the country during such an important event. In addition, a work team should be formed from the CMC members, MME, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to study the matter and submit a report within three months.
The CMC also issued some other recommendations regarding the use and sale of nutritional supplements at private gyms. The council asked the MoPH to consider a mechanism to ensure they are only issued through a nutritionist. In addition, all such products should be registered at the MoPH. The council asked the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) to instruct all commercial outlets and gyms to sell these products only based on a prescription from a physician. These places should also display a warning notice about the risks involved in using such products.
The CMC recommended the creation of a joint committee from the MoPH, MoCI, and the Ministry of Interior to exercise the desired control on these places and authorise MoPH inspectors to monitor them. At the regular biweekly session conducted by the council on Tuesday, the council hosted MoPH officials, including Public Health director Dr Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, and Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control manager Dr Hamad Eid al-Romaihi to discuss the latest updates of the Covid-19 situation in the country. They gave a comprehensive presentation and answered all queries of the CMC members.
The council thanked them for the great efforts exerted by the MoPH to contain the pandemic, expressing its readiness to maintain continued co-operation.
