Qatar and Kazakhstan have great potential for co-operation in many fields that would further enhance the good bilateral relations, Kazakh envoy Arman Issagaliev said Wednesday.
"Both countries have been two brotherly states for several decades, and demonstrated a mutual desire to strengthen friendly relations and full-scale co-operation in the political, economic and cultural spheres, and also support each other at all international and regional platforms," he explained.
At a press conference at the embassy, the envoy described Qatar as an important partner of Kazakhstan in the Gulf region and in the Arab world.
He said: “The first President of Kazakhstan N Nazarbayev and His Highness the Father Amir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani laid a solid foundation for bilateral relations. Today this strategic line is continued by President K Tokayev and the His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Their last meeting took place in Dushanbe on the sidelines of the CICA summit in June 2019.”
The ambassador pointed out that on November 11 last year, the two leaders had a telephone conversation, that confirmed the importance of further development of bilateral trade, economic and investment relations.
He pointed out that the two countries regularly exchange high-level delegations. “Even during the pandemic, our high officials found opportunities to meet and discuss all areas of interaction,” he added.
The Kazakh envoy stressed that the launching of direct flights between the two countries would further improve mutual co-operation in various fields, most notably economy, business and investment, in addition to encouraging more tourists.
Foreign investors have opportunities in Kazakhstan, especially in tourism, mining, and agriculture as the country has vast spaces of arable land.
The ambassador said Qatar has already participated in the development of the new Capital City of Kazakhstan and constructed a number of service buildings, including the Islamic Cultural Center Nur-Astana, the school named after His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani in the capital, as well as humanitarian assistance provided in 2020 as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The people of Kazakhstan highly appreciate the assistance provided by Qatar,” he said while lauding the achievements of Qatar in various fields including the recent announcement of the Shura Council elections, and expected that the new council would have great relations with the new Parliament in Kazakhstan.
The envoy said that on January 10, Kazakhstan will host elections to the Mazhilis of Parliament. This will be the eighth parliamentary elections in the history of independent Kazakhstan.
