Faris Saad al-Qahtani put on an excellent round astride Hidiene to clinch the Medium Tour title during the seventh round of the Longines Qatar Equestrian Tour Hathab supported by The Social & Sport Contribution Fund yesterday.
At Al Shaqab’s outdoor arena, al-Qahtani combined with eight-year-old Hidiene to produce the fastest time in 135cm class. Al-Qahtani took home QR7,500 for his victory. In second place was Mohamed Khalifa Albaker, who timed 31.05 secs with Verona. Salmeen Sultan al-Suwaidi and Aslan 69 finished third, with the pair completing their round in 31.34.
The team competition was won by Limited Edition Cars, which had Mohamed Khalifa Albaker and Mohamed Saeed Haidan riding for them. The duo’s winning time was 63.53 secs. Team Al Kass (Salmeen Sultan al-Suwaidi, Nasser al-Ghazali) finished second, ahead of Team ExxonMobil (Cyrine Cherif. Jassim al-Jaham al-Kuwari).
Earlier, the Small Tour was won by Mohamed Nasser al-Qadi on Vlacido in a time of 54.07 seconds. Hamad Nasser al-Qadi came second with Gibria-B, while Khalid Ali al-Adba was third with Cornett Des Forrets. For the first time this season, Hathab was held at Al Shaqab with the previous six rounds held at Qatar Equestrian Federation’s indoor arena.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Salem al-Ali, Director of the Programmes Department, praised The Social & Sport Contribution Fund for supporting the equestrian tour. He also praised the increase in the number of riders, since Hathab began four years ago.
“The championship has had a great impact not only in sports but also in social terms and also there is increase in the number of horses participating in the tours. Indeed, we have monitored the continuous development at Hathab, for which those responsible for the tournament deserve all the praise,” he said.
“We have also followed the remarkable development in the level of the riders and the great competition between them, which ultimately affects the interest of the Qatari equestrian, and this is the most important goal,” al-Ali added.
