Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Al Wakra Hospital organised a series of workshops titled ‘Fundamentals of Research in Health Informatics’ as part of its efforts to encourage knowledge-sharing and improve competencies in the latest research methodologies among its staff.
The workshop, organised by the Quality and Patient Safety Department at Al Wakra Hospital in collaboration with the College of Science and Engineering at Hamad Bin Khalifa University gathered 24 specialised staff members from Al Wakra Hospital and HMC’s Corporate Quality and Patient Safety Department.
In a special celebration ceremony held at Al Wakra Hospital to mark the completion of the six-week training programme, Dr Sabah al-Kadhi, acting CEO and medical director of Al Wakra Hospital, honoured CSE faculty members who delivered the programme for their efforts and contribution to the success of the training workshops.
The online training programme focused on the qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodologies for health informatics and data analysis, as well as on the best ways to identify and evaluate factors related to quality and patient safety. The programme also showcased the latest tools and technologies that can help healthcare researchers, thus improving the overall quality of care.
The programme was implemented under supervision of Dr Moza Abdullatif al-Ishaq, executive director of Corporate Quality and Patient Safety at HMC, and Dr al- Munthir AbdulJaleel Zakariya, AED of Quality and Patient Safety at Al Wakra Hospital, and was coordinated by Dr Sara Murhaf Kazkaz, academic research associate at Al Wakra Hospital’s Quality and Patient Safety Department.
Health informatics is a unique area of professional practice, which encompasses the systematic application of information, computer science, and technology in health care and research. Health information systems are now widely used in Qatar as part of the efforts to improve the quality of care delivered to patients.
The team of faculty members who delivered the training included Prof Dr Raian Ali, assistant professors; Dr Dina al-Thani, Dr Zubair Shah, Dr Tanvir Alam, and associate professors; Dr Mowafaq Househ, Dr Samir Belhaouari, and Dr Alaa Abd-alrazaq.
The Corporate Quality and Patient Safety Department works on improving competencies and skills of HMC staff to ensure delivery of the safest, most effective and most compassionate care to every patient, which contributes to increasing patient and family satisfaction and confidence in HMC’s healthcare services.
