M S Bukhari (57), a prominent Indian community member and a leading businessman in Qatar, passed away Monday night in Doha. He is survived by his wife Sophia and daughter Symaa.

Bukhari’s burial took place on Tuesday at Abu Hamour. The family will receive condolences on Wednesday and Thursday from 5pm to 9pm at their house located at Zone 64, street 555 and villa No. 3.

Hailing from Bhopal in India, Bukhari was a Qatar resident for about three decades. A former chairman of Indian Sports Centre, an apex body under Indian embassy, he was also the founder member of Ideal Indian School as well as a life member of Birla Public School. He was the managing director of Satco International and was a partner in several other business groups.

Bukhari’s friends and close associates highlighted his active involvement in community affairs as well as his contributions to the welfare of the community. Besides being a leading businessman, Bukhari was active in several areas such as arts and sports. He had actively supported a number of sporting events in Qatar and had promoted many community sports events. He was a big lover of the Urdu language and had patronised several Urdu programmes and writers.

Bukhari was also well known for his philanthropic feats as he was in the forefront of helping the needy. He has won several national and international awards, including NRI Achievers Excellence Award.
