Qatar witnessed great demand for National Day-related gifts, items and accessories, with a special focus on children items and Qatar heritage and key sites memorabilia, local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' reported. For this year in particular, many customers were buying facemasks in maroon colour, the Qatar flag colour, to wear it as part of their expression of love for the country. Qataris were keen to buy traditional swords inscribed with different mottos expressing loyalty and love for the country and its wise leadership.
Key chains, medals, models of Qatari traditional heritage sites and other modern landmarks, dresses with Qatar flag colour pattern and girls' hair accessories have been among the top selling items over the past period, besides the Qatar flag in different sizes.
A number of Qatari men stressed that buying National Day gifts, especially for children, has become an integral part of enjoying the occasion.
Saood al-Baridi described it as a historic occasion to renew allegiance and remember the great efforts of the founders of the nation and through such gifts, children would easily get into the festive mood. Mubarak al-Hajiri said that everybody waits eagerly to mark this occasion and children also enjoy it through the various related gifts.
Some stressed they prefer to buy their National Day gifts and items at the various traditional souqs such as Souq Waqif and Souq Al Ali among others, even though such things are mostly available at the other different retailers. However, they see that the traditional places offer more options and display things more attractively, Arrayah added.
