HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed bin Abdulwahed al-Hammadi has said that the Qatar National Day pays tribute to the day Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani led his people to establish a modern state in 1878.
HE al-Hammadi said that today is a time to reflect on the values of honesty, justice, and hard work, upon which the state was founded.
HE the Minister said that it is these values that the education system looks to encourage in their students, through programmes that cherish tradition and respect the cultures of other people.
He in remarks made to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the leadership of His Highness the Amir managed to turn the blockade from a crisis to an opportunity.
HE the Minister that everyone in the country is focused on enhancing national capabilities to meet local needs.
HE al-Hammadi noted that the State of Qatar has faced difficult challenges in the past few years: first it was the unjust blockade, and then it was a coronavirus pandemic that is adversely impacting the world.
HE the Minister noted however that solidarity between Qataris and hard work helped the country overcome these challenges, adding that the people remained true to the principles of the country's founder.
He also highlighted that the State has always focused on education, reflected in the establishment of Qatar University in the 70s.
HE al-Hammadi also discussed the achievements of the ministry, and said that, despite the impact of pandemic, the ministry moved forward with its strategy.
The year saw the ministry offer a host of services digitally, helping to maintain social distancing at the onset of the pandemic.
The ministry co-operated with the Ministry of Public Health to ensure strict adherence to coronavirus measures in schools and by its employees.
HE al-Hammadi highlighted that His Highness the Amir, despite the impact of the global pandemic, issued directives to continue investing in education and health to ensure the prosperity of citizens and residents.
