Qatar Foundation (QF) Vice-Chairperson and Chief Executive HE Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani said that the Qatar National Day represents an opportunity to celebrate societal and cultural values, and strengthen solidarity among community members to enable them to make the desired positive impact on all levels, especially in the midst of the unprecedented challenges witnessed by the world today.
She told the Qatar News Agency (QNA) in remarks made on the occasion of the Qatar National Day that it is an important occasion to highlight the role played by the QF in supporting the country's development efforts.
HE Sheikha Hind expressed pride at the progress that the country is making in all fields, which the QF contributes to by advancing human, social, and economic development.
She extended her congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Qatari people on the advent of the Qatar National Day.
She said that over two decades, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Her Highness the QF Chairperson Sheikha Moza shared a vision on the future of development in of Qatar, which yielded Qatar Foundation.
HE Sheikha Hind added that the QF, since its establishment, is one of the most important anchors of Qatar's development efforts in all fields, due to its research status as well as its educational and academic programmes.
She noted that this year imposed unprecedented challenges on the QF and the rest of society due to the coronavirus pandemic.
HE Sheikha Hind noted however that the QF proved once again its resilience in dealing with crises, responding quickly to extraordinary conditions.
She highlighted that Qatar Foundation, Hamad Medical Corporation, and the Italian embassy in Qatar co-operated to try and discover new ways for treatment from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) by using plasma of recovered patients.
Sidra also developed an innovative way to test for the virus, and avoid the global shortage of traditional testing equipment in April of this year.
HE Sheikha Hind noted that Qatar Foundation played its part in monitoring Covid-19 developments and placed comprehensive plans for the return to activities that were in line with the measures adopted by the state.
Qatar Foundation also exempted renters and small- and medium-sized enterprises it deals with from rent for six months, as part of its commitment to economic development.
