The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) opened on Thursday the Mal Lawal 3 Classic Cars Exhibition, coinciding with the National Day celebrations. The exhibition highlights the stories of 28 Qatari collectors, including car collectors, Salem Saeed al-Mohannadi and Omar Hussein Alfardan. Mal Lawal Gallery will be opened in three phases, starting with the auto show, later the Virtual Mal Lawal Gallery will open, and then Mal Lawal 3.
The items on show include manuscripts, weapons, maps, Islamic currencies and artifacts, ethnographic articles, heritage articles, antiques, jewellery, clothes, accessories. Mal Lawal exhibition opens the way for community members, especially young people, to learn about the past, while increasing their interest and passion for the heritage of their ancestors. 'Mal Lawal' in the Qatari dialect means "from the early days".
The first edition of the exhibition was launched in 2012. The collections included antiques, jewellery, contemporary treasures and Qatari art. Mal Lawal is organised in co-operation with Mawater Center, with the aim of documenting the history of cars belonging to the people of Qatar.
