HE the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority Dr Saleh bin Mohamed al-Nabit said December 18 is considered a significant occasion to celebrate an important milestone in the history of the State of Qatar, and affirm loyalty while following the path of its founder, who was able to set the foundations of the country, as well as consolidating its identity and national unity despite great difficulties and challenges.
In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the Qatar National Day, HE added that this day is considered a historic turning point in the life of every Qatari, and an opportunity to inspire different values in the life and history of Qataris, such as unity, national cohesion and social solidarity.
He emphasised the importance of the occasion to highlight development plans and strategies to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030, which represents another turning point for the future of the State of Qatar as well as all its citizens and residents.
He also noted that the country's National Day is an occasion to celebrate the achievements and renew the determination to follow the path of prosperity and progress in all fields and commit to sovereignty and the firm national principles, saying that the people of this country will unite to keep Qatar free through the efforts and sacrifices of its co-operative people, regardless of the circumstances and challenges.
HE pointed out the great achievements of the State of Qatar made by its founder in the process of building the country, which continued thanks to the leaders of this country, and are still going on under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, as more accomplishments are being achieved for a bright future for future generations and to provide an environment of prosperity and well-being for both the country and citizens.
HE Dr al-Nabit affirmed that the State of Qatar has succeeded in confronting all challenges, and has not faced any imbalance in any of the developmental area; it rather emerged from these challenges stronger and more resolute in strengthening the Qatari economy, which has notably expanded, adding that the State of Qatar will continue its journey, benefiting from its experiences while adapting to its reality more effectively, thanks to the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
In the same context, he added that the sustainable developments of the efforts of the State of Qatar will continue in accordance with the plans set by the Qatar National Vision 2030 and on the guidance of the national development strategies emanating from it, as their goals are supported by the strategic and executive plans of ministries and other bodies implementing comprehensive development programmes and projects in the country.
HE pointed out that the challenges that accompanied the implementation of the aforementioned plans, such as the blockade and the Covid-19 crisis, turned into opportunities to assert the implementation of the country's long-term vision with determination as well as the continuous alignment of the direction of development efforts at the level of all sectors, using the existing technological infrastructure and tools.
HE also noted some international indicators that confirm the success of the country's development plans, as in the Global Competitiveness Report, saying that the State of Qatar ranked 14th globally in the Global Competitiveness Report for 2020 issued by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), rising three places compared to 2017.
He also said that the State of Qatar occupied high ranks in important global indicators within the competitiveness classification, as it ranked first globally in the indicators of the low unemployment rates, and the high percentages of each of the fixed capital formation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), domestic savings from the domestic product, the Balance of Trade (BoT), and total productivity.
On the Achievements of the Planning and Statistics Authority in 2020, he explained that the most prominent achievements are in linking all government plans from ministries and other bodies to the second national development strategy of the State of Qatar 2018-2022, thus completing the multi-level national planning framework.
He also pointed out the continuation of adhering to the implementation of the national development strategy of the State of Qatar, while indicating that this continuation includes assessing the progress achieved in implementing its goals, programmes and development projects.
These reports cover the progress achieved at the level of the four pillars of Qatar's national human, economic, social and environmental vision, and at the sectoral level, in addition to continuous monitoring of the challenges and obstacles facing the implementing bodies and the proposed solutions to address these challenges, he added.
One of the significant achievements that the President of the Planning and Statistics Authority has pointed out was the project of Electronic Census of Population, Housings and Establishments of 2020, as the Authority resumed early December the last phase of the Qatar Census 2020, after the suspension of field work due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
HE stated that the preparation of this census had been preceded by building a comprehensive administrative database covering buildings, establishments and housing units according to their characteristics, and all technical and statistical equipment was completed to implement the stage of collecting household and individual data.
HE Dr al-Nabit highlighted the completion of the fourth phase of the follow-up stages of the implementation of the Qatar's Population Policy Program of 2017-2022, and the collection of data by the working groups tasked with following up the implementation of the population policy within the framework of the continuous evaluation of implementation.
On the Authority's contribution in combating the coronavirus, HE said that since the beginning of Qatar's efforts to take precautionary measures through a strategy that was implemented on all its institutions to limit the outbreak of Covid-19, the Planning and Statistics Authority has been part of the comprehensive preventive campaign in the country to ensure the safety of all citizens and residents.
He also noted the efforts of the Authority to support the country's strategy to prevent Covid-19, whether at the level of internal work or within the framework of comprehensive awareness through its platforms on social media, or through the campaign that the Authority has organised to support a number of groups in society.
The work-plans of the Planning and Statistics Authority are characterised by the flexibility that facilitated its adaptation to the new circumstances, he said, adding that the electronic infrastructure, with all its applications and means in the State of Qatar, has greatly contributed to the stability of the pace of work in light of the pandemic and made its consequences milder.
