Prime Minister David Cameron walks with Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, after their meeting at Suu Kyi’s residence in Yangon, Myanmar, yesterday. Cameron is the first world leader to hold talks with opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi since she won a parliamentary seat. Cameron also became the first head of a western democracy to visit Myanmar since it ended military rule and the first British prime minister to visit since Myanmar gained independence from Britain in 1948. Cameron said the arms embargo in place against Myanmar should remain, adding that, ‘it was right to suspend, not lift, the remaining sanctions’.
