The Qatar Business Incubation Center (QBIC) has successfully concluded the second wave of its newly formed Lean Manufacturing Programme (LMP).
The seven-week programme – the first of its kind in the country – has seen several promising industrial startups and rapidly growing manufacturing companies take part in practical workshops and developmental online sessions.
The LMP team received applications from more than 40 startups, of which five teams were selected to pitch their ideas before a panel of expert judges.
The four winners for the second wave of the programme were Oxy Tank (Mohsin al-Sheikh), which produces water tank coolers; Biscuit Factory (Khalifa al-Thani), a made-in-Qatar biscuit production startup; Arkana (Hassan al-Ansari) for its innovative approach to air conditioning; and Beehive (Sarah al-Dorani and Eliana); bringing the total number of ideas started by LMP to 16.
QBIC will support the winners by providing each with a workshop space at a subsidised rate and a dedicated office space, in addition to on-going coaching and mentorship services by industry experts.
The LMP is designed to build the capacity of companies that are aiming to manufacture products and goods in Qatar. The participants are trained to develop their ideas alongside invaluable insights provided by international experts and partners, as the QBIC continues to deliver world-class content that is relevant to the local market.
“This is proof that we are steadily achieving self-sufficiency in line with the nation’s vision. Another successful wave of the LMP concludes today, but we are excited to continue supporting Qatari talent to achieve maximum potential within the manufacturing industry,” said Hamad Dashin al-Qahtani, general manager at QBIC.
Within this programme, entrepreneurs and business owners gain a thorough, hands-on understanding of the holistic manufacturing process through a series of practical sessions that are based on the lean methodology.
During the programme, participants visited Fab-Lab at QBIC to learn more about digital manufacturing and received a number of inspirational seminars by the team at Fab-Lab.
They were also given the opportunity to visit Jahiz factories and QBIC industrial workshop where they received advice and guidance from factory owners on how to scale their operations.
The graduates of the LMP can now transfer their knowledge and skills to empower individuals currently within the industrial and manufacturing sector, as they pave the way to leading change within the sector in Qatar.
