Ambassador of Venezuela Giuseppe Angelo Yoffreda Yorio said that Qatar succeeded in overcoming challenges and maintaining its sovereignty. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), he said that Qatar has made great strides in many areas, both nationally and internationally, praising in particular the determination of Qatar to strengthen and expand its international relations, diversify its economy, and pivot towards a knowledge-based economy.
He added that Qatar succeeded in overcoming the repercussions of the blockade imposed on it with great success. The ambassador noted that, in the process, Qatar presented a blueprint on how to protect national sovereignty and decision, while continuing to play an important role regionally and globally in maintaining international peace and security.
He welcomed ongoing efforts to resolve the GCC crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, stressing support for Kuwait’s effort in that regard.
He offered his congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on the advent of the National Day. He said that the occasion is an opportunity for the Qatari people to affirm their unity and identity and to renew their commitment to continuing national development efforts.
Regarding efforts to confront the coronavirus pandemic, the Venezuelan ambassador affirmed Qatar has been very successful in containing the epidemic. He praised the speed of the response and the solid implementation of emergency health plans and expanding medical facilities to contain the virus and keep death rates low. He stressed that all the measures taken by the Qatari government had positive effects in providing health security to citizens and residents alike without any discrimination. He also praised the aid provided by Qatar to various countries around the world. Since the coronavirus epidemic was declared a pandemic, Qatar provided medical aid to more than 70 countries.
On ties between Qatar and Venezuela, he stressed that the two countries have good historical cooperation relations, as they share a strong friendship over the years. He added that recent years saw significant progress in a number of fields of cooperation between the two countries.
He also highlighted that his country has many investment opportunities in areas like energy, tourism, air transport and has notable comparative advantages in those areas. He expressed hope that 2021 will be the year of advancing the bilateral trade and investment ties.
