Austria's ambassador to Qatar Karin Fichtinger-Grohe described her country's relations with Qatar as friendly and close, stressing that she sees a lot of potential to increase the bilateral co-operation, in culture, tourism, business, sustainability, to name just a few.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) ahead of the Qatar National Day, the ambassador emphasised the importance of mutual visits in deepening relations, converging views, building positions and increasing opportunities for co-operation in all fields, pointing to the important visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Austria last year.
She added that the schedule of visits between the two countries was busy during this year, but the situation caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the precautionary measures imposed by governments to avoid the spread of the pandemic led to the postponement of many plans that were to be established between the two sides.
She added that each country has a specific path that it has set for itself and its own measures to avoid the spread of the pandemic and to protect its citizens, noting that Qatar was able to deal with the pandemic at its peak during the summer months through correct measures, and said the success of Qatar in curbing the spread of the virus and dealing with it professionally allowed it to hold its National Day celebrations in a cheerful atmosphere, but also in a reasonable way.
The Austrian ambassador extended congratulations and blessings to HH the Amir, the wise government and the Qatari people on the occasion of the National Day, which represents the best opportunity to review the history of the state, its achievements, its development and future vision.
She added that the National Day always has two dimensions: the first is the significance of the day for the own citizen, the importance for the Qataris; the second message is addressed to the world. To host high level negotiations and important sports events certainly contributes to the vision Qatar has chosen for itself.
