Ambassador of Ethiopia Samia Zekaria Gutu stressed that the relationship between Ethiopia and Qatar is close, distinguished and based on historical ties and a common desire to develop them and open wide horizons of opportunities and areas of co-operation in various political, commercial, economic, investment fields. 
In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar National Day, she expressed her desire to maintain and strengthen the excellent relations between the two countries on official and personal levels. The ambassador extended her congratulations to Qatar, saying: "On behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and on my own behalf, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Government and people of Qatar on the occasion of the Anniversary of National Day of the State of Qatar."
She added, "The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the State of Qatar have enjoyed friendly relations over the past years. I do hope that the existing relations and good co-operation between our two countries will be further developed in the years to come for mutual benefits of our two nations. I wish His Highness good health, well-being and the Qatari people continued progress and prosperity."
The envoy expressed her appreciation for the extraordinary efforts that the Government of Qatar has exerted, through its health system, in the successful fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that this shows Qatar's growing resilience. She praised Qatar's increasing role in discharging its global responsibility as shown in its support to many countries to help them tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
The envoy added, "the support provided to my country is a living witness. Taking this opportunity, I would like to once again thank His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Government of the State of Qatar for the support provided to Ethiopia and our nationals residing in Qatar. The support, which came during that critical moment, showed the growing bilateral ties that our two countries are pursuing."
