Ambassador of Cuba to Qatar Eumelio Caballero Rodrguez hailed the role played by Qatar in strengthening international peace and security and its efforts in resolving disputes by peaceful means. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of Qatar's National Day, the envoy said that the government and people of Qatar can be very proud not only for being a nation so much advanced in the economic and social fields despite the various challenges that it had to face throughout history and recent times, particularly the Gulf crisis, but also for the very important role that Qatar has been playing at the regional and international arena. The nation has always been practicing a policy of advocating peaceful solutions to conflicts and controversies and extending its hand of friendship and solidarity with other countries in need."
The ambassador said that this sensible and serious position of the government of Qatar vis-à-vis its people and the international community as a whole has been more recently reflected in the correct, energetic and responsible manner with which Qatar has been handling the coronavirus pandemic.
The envoy added: "We Cubans are very proud of participating with an important number of health professionals, together with our Qatari friends, in this battle against Covid-19, thus confirming the high level of friendship and co-operation that happily exists between both countries and people, based on the prevailing mutual confidence."
The ambassador congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the Qatari people for the great success achieved by this young nation since its establishment by Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani.
The envoy also congratulated Qatar on the occasion of the National Day, adding that "the commemoration of the National Day of Qatar has for me a special connotation this year because I am on the eve of culminating my tour of duty of four years representing the government and the Cuban people in this lovely country."
The envoy stated that he is experiencing "mixed feeling of sadness because very soon I will be saying "hasta la vista" to so many Qatari friends and to a whole people that I learned to love so much, and happiness ... about the prompt return to my dear Cuba and my beloved family."
