Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Qatar Rashad Ismayilov has confirmed that the two countries have a new mechanism for political dialogue, in the form of political consultations held for the first time in 2019, where a wide range of important issues of bilateral agenda were discussed.
The envoy said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), on the occasion of Qatar’s National Day, that the second meeting of the Azerbaijan-Qatar Joint Economic, Trade and Technical Commission took place in Doha on February 2, during which officials and business representatives from both sides considered the current status of economic co-operation, exchanged views about the possibilities for fostering economic and trade relations, and future projects of mutual interest.
Ismayilov emphasised the strength of the bilateral relations between the two countries, adding that the two sides are making continuous efforts to strengthen the existing relations in all fields.
He noted that the co-operation includes areas such as trade, investment, manufacturing, culture, health, agriculture, and tourism.
Ismayilov said that to encourage mutual investments, a joint Investment Working Group was established, which held its first meeting in Baku in October last year.
Furthermore, Azerbaijani officials worked with their Qatari counterparts to expand the existing legal framework between the two countries.
In addition to a numerous bilateral documents already signed, there are currently several drafts under consideration between Azerbaijan and Qatar, the envoy said.
The ambassador added that there is still untapped potential for effective collaboration in various fields attractive to both sides.
For instance, there are promising mutual investment opportunities in areas such as agriculture, tourism, transport, renewable energy sources, and information and communication technologies.
Ismayilov said that coronavirus pandemic, along with healthcare and social factors, have affected interstate relations forced countries to cancel or postpone previously agreed plans and projects in various fields.
He said that every country, regardless of its development level, has had to choose its own path in fighting this disease, adding that some of them were efficient and some, not so much.
Ismayilov praised Qatar’s timely deployment of necessary preventative measures and relevant policy as well as its strict implementation, including the introduction of the Ehteraz app.
The envoy added that there has been a gradual decline in the number of positive cases in the country.
Ismayilov congratulated the leadership and the people of Qatar on the occasion of the National Day.
