Encouraged by the increase in women practising padel in Qatar, Yasmian Events is organising its first VIP Padel Tournament for ladies. The tournament is an opportunity to support female padel community in Qatar and help people to stay active, encourage them to play sports and follows the Qatar Vision 2030.
To provide the highest level of organisation for the event, VIP Padel Qatar has roped in top sponsors such as Ooredoo, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, Maserati, Sports Corner and Blue Salon.
The tournament will take place 10-12 December at Marsa Malaz Kempinski in Pearl and has attracted good number of entries. The event is being held keeping with all the health and safety precautionary measures against coronavirus and as per the Ministry of Public Health protocols to protect all members of society.
The game of Padel combines the best elements of tennis and squash. A Padel court is smaller than a tennis court and is one of the most popular sports in the world, especially in Spain. It has a great turnout in the Qatari society, including among women. It is an easy sport to practice and suitable for all ages and groups in the Qatari society.
Yasmine Ghanem al-Sharshani, the Director of Yasmian Events, is the brainchild behind the VIP Padel Qatar tournament. She is the first Qatari female golfer and has represented Qatar in many international and local tournaments.
Al-Sharshani also holds a master’s degree in managing and organising Olympic events in Greece and is the holder of the Businesswomen Award for Qatari women in leadership and sports 2013.
Speaking about the event, al-Sharshani said: “It has been my love for sport and travel that I got this idea of establishing a championship. While I was practising during the coronavirus pandemic time being socially distanced, I realised the many benefits on physical and mental health of padel. The sport is physical and at the same time suitable for Qatari women. Many of them are playing padel, so the idea has been to make it more competitive.”
She also thanked the sponsors for their support and faith in her to support the event. Winners and participants of the VIP Padel Qatar Tournament will be awarded different prizes.
