A group of 23 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teachers from public schools across Qatar were honoured at a certificate awards ceremony at the College of the North Atlantic - Qatar (CNA-Q) last week.

The teachers had completed 30 hours of intensive training and instruction at CNA-Q in the use of robotics programming for classroom settings. The 10 three-hour sessions were provided in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

“Close collaboration brings us together with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in the framework of teachers’ competencies development in the country, so as to provide them with the needed skills and knowledge in fields of Robotics to facilitate the educational process in classrooms and ensure this knowledge devilry to school students”, CNA-Q acting president Dr Salem al-Naemi said in a press statement.

“CNA-Q is one of the leading institutions in the area of robotics development and awareness-rising in this important field due to its significance in the direction of student’s attention towards areas of science technology, engineering and mathematics,” he added.

The teacher training programme, launched in 2011, has hosted nearly 800 training sessions; more than 1,000 teachers have attended at least one of these sessions; and nearly 400 teachers have completed the full training programme.

The robotics training and its resultant delivery in schools is vital in developing students’ interest in STEM.

CNA-Q champions the robotics teacher-training programme, and the WRO-Qatar robotics competitions, so that Qatar’s students can enhance their interest in STEM skills that are in high demand as the country reaches towards the realisation of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
