A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced two Asian expatriate men to one year in jail and subsequent deportation for stealing a truck.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that according to the file of the case, the duo saw a truck parked outside a car showroom at the Industrial Area Street No 8 and decided to steal it. They hired a breakdown vehicle for QR150 to load the truck on to it and took to Industrial Area No 150.
Subsequently, they took the truck apart and sold its engine and transmission, which rendered the vehicle unusable. Police investigation about the incident revealed that the owners had parked the truck at the said place for three days and on the fourth day they found it missing, prompting them to think it was removed by the municipality concerned. However, after making the necessary inquiries, they confirmed that it was stolen and accordingly called the police.
Eventually, the vehicle was found by the police. When the owners checked they said most of its main parts, valued at QR150,000, were seen removed. One of the defendants was arrested when he was trying to sell some parts of the stolen vehicle. Later, his accomplice was also arrested, Arrayah added.
