On December 9, the Qatar National Library (QNL) will organise a webinar about its programme to support free access, and define the extent to which researchers in Qatar benefit from the funding provided to publish research papers in free access journals.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that QNL's free access officer Sarah Abu Saada will give a brief overview of the concept of free access and its importance for research in Qatar.
QNL provides many options that enable researchers in Qatar to finance the publication of their scientific papers. Through the Free Access Support Programme, publishing fees for research papers and academic studies on behalf of researchers are directly paid.
QNL has entered into many agreements with a group of major publishers, such as Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, Taylor & Francis and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, which supports researchers to have a quick and easy way to fund the publication of their research.
These options are available to university students, faculty, researchers, and employees from any higher education institution or non-profit research center within Qatar. QNL has funded nearly 1,000 research papers since 2017.
QNL's free access programme contributes to supporting research carried out in Qatar by facilitating unrestricted access to them and providing permanent archives of these publications in the library.
