Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded a charitable initiative implemented by volunteers in co-operation with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).
The one-week initiative is part of QRCS’s social development activities conducted by its Volunteers Section through the year for the benefit of different segments of society, particularly expatriate workers, according to a press statement.
Muna Fadel al-Sulaiti, executive director of the Volunteers and Local Development Division at QRCS, said, “Under this initiative, cold water and juice bottles were distributed to more than 15,000 construction workers at worksites. All preventive measures were strictly observed to ensure the safety of both the volunteers and beneficiaries."
“It is aimed at promoting the social inclusion of workers and recognising their efforts to build the country,” al-Sulaiti continued. “Our volunteers are dedicated to community service, utilising their time and efforts in useful activities. The initiative was implemented in many locations, such as Leabaib, Duhail, Al Kheesa, the Industrial Area, Umm Ebairiya, Corniche, Al Waab, The Pearl-Qatar and Al Wukair."
Mooza Mohamed al-Kuwari, head of Community Development at QRCS, said the initiative was commended by the workers, who thanked Qatar and QRCS for their "limitless giving".
“They saw it as a kind but usual gesture from QRCS,” she added. “They liked the well-organised system and the friendly spirit of volunteers, which made them feel at home in this hospitable country."
Hanadi Hassan al-Moualem, Humanitarian Services Fund programme co-ordinator, highlighted the co-operation and support from Ashghal and the contracting companies contacted to plan for the event, which made it such a success.
According to her, safe distancing and protective measures were followed to prevent the risk of Covid-19.
"QRCS has major social development mandates in Qatar, in its capacity as an auxiliary to the State of Qatar and a main contributor to the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. Through its social development programmes, QRCS seeks to improve the standard of living for poor segments of society, to be able to afford the costs of life and enjoy financial stability," the statement adds.
