The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced that it carried out, in co-operation with the Ministry of the Interior, inspection campaigns that resulted in the detection of 44 violations. The violations ranged from starting and practising an activity without a licence, to failure to meet the general and special requirements for commercial stores, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Saturday.
The ministry said, in a statement, that the campaigns targeted workshops and stores within residential neighbourhoods in different regions of the country. They aimed to monitor the extent of compliance with laws and regulations governing the practice of commercial activities, and the extent of compliance with Law No 5 of 2015 on Commercial, Industrial and Similar Public Shops, and Street Vendors.
The MoCI emphasised that these inspection campaigns come within the framework of its keenness to regulate and monitor markets and commercial activities in the country, as well as to monitor the extent of compliance with laws and regulations governing the practice of commercial activities in order to uncover and crack down on violations, QNA said.
The ministry has stressed that it will firmly confront everyone who neglects their obligations stipulated in Law No 5 of 2015, and will work to intensify its inspection campaigns to control such practices and crack down on violations. The ministry will refer any party who violates laws and ministerial decisions to the competent authorities, who will, in turn, take appropriate action against violators in order to protect consumer rights.
Further, the ministry has urged all merchants and shopowners to adhere to the applicable laws and regulations governing commercial activities, and invites them to review these laws and regulations by visiting the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s website (www.moci.gov.qa) to avoid legal accountability and penalties.
